A traveler, who while lost in the arid waste of the desert, came over a dune and saw a light not far away. Cautiously the traveler moved through the dunes. Gaining a better view, the traveler spied an old man moving slowly along his path, lit by a lantern. The lamp he held looked ancient and odd. A small dog figure on the lid cast its shadow across the dunes as the old man moved along. The traveler approached the old man and asked for assistance, saying that he was lost and needed help to find civilization. The old man couldn't speak english but, by scratching pictures into the sand the traveler was able to enlighten the old man as to his needs. The old man smiled and motioned the traveler to follow. Shortly after that, they arrived at the banks of the Nile and then finally they came to the ferry landing. As they crossed the Nile, the traveler chanced across another visitor to Egypt who spoke english. As he explained what had happened and how the old man had. . . saved him, the visitor spoke to the old man in arabic. They laughed and as the ferry docked the traveler invited the old man and their new companion to stop for tea. As they sat and enjoyed the tea and the night, the traveler asked the old man, through the skill of their translator, where the lamp came from and what the dog meant.
"It is Anubis, who lights our way across the river styx and guides us to a new dimension of understanding and life." The tradition of the Doglight still glows in the hearts and minds of those who have seen the dog. |
